                   GRANTS INITIATIVE


Did you know that the Waterloo Region Gerontology Interest Group (GIG) has a grant
program?  Each year GIG awards grants to not for profit organizations that provide
programs to older adults.

If you would like to apply for a grant on behalf of your organization and meet the
eligibility criteria, please complete the attached application form.  The deadline for the
grant application is
Friday October 14, 2011, by 4:00 pm.

In recent years the GIG has provided grants of various amounts to the following projects:

  • Alzheimer Society of Guelph-Wellington:  To purchase “By US – For Us” guides
    for distribution to people in the early stages of dementia and their families.  
    These guides provide educational information about the needs and
    experiences of people in the early stages of dementia.
  • Waterloo Region Committee on Elder Abuse, CCAC Elder Abuse Resource
    Team, Waterloo Regional Police, Elder Abuse Response Team: sponsorship
    for a free evening session for public/seniors.
  • Fairview Mennonite Home:  towards an IT Intergenerational Program –
    engaging youth and seniors through computers.  
  • Sunnyside Home:  To purchase CDs to use in the music therapy program.  

Grants Eligibility Criteria

The organization is a corporate member of the GIG or has at least one employee who
is an individual member of the GIG

The organization is not-for-profit

The project/activity must benefit seniors and/or seniors’ services in the Waterloo
Region or surrounding area

The project/activity must be compatible with the Waterloo Region Gerontology Interest
Group mission and objectives.

    o        To broaden knowledge about aging in order to encourage positive             
    societal  and professional attitudes towards elderly people
    o        To promote communication between persons interested in the field of
    gerontology
    o        To co-operate where appropriate, with other organizations that have
    similar objectives to those of this interest group

The approved applicants must provide the Gerontology Interest Group with an oral
report of their project implementation at the Annual General Meeting the year following
the approval of the grant.
